Professional development: building your competencies around inclusive excellence and belonging

Indiana University offers various educational opportunities across its campuses for staff, faculty, and students to foster an inclusive and respectful environment that encourages dialogue and cross-cultural interaction. With a proactive rather than reactive approach to education, we seek to build competencies and understanding among IU community members that honor the true beauty of belonging throughout our university.

In collaboration with Equip Inclusive, we offer an opportunity for building your competencies on how to engage diversity and belonging on campus. A blended learning approach utilizing both online and in-person engagement will be used. The program aims to give Indiana University faculty a foundational understanding of DEI-related issues, including implicit bias, identity formation, microaggressions, and inclusive pedagogy. You can find more on the curriculum here: https://www.equipinclusive.com/curriculum/

 PROGRAM BASICS

1. Each of you will participate in 2 communities of practice, which are guided conversations of 1.5 hours each (for a total of 3 hours). These communities of practice will engage topics such as bias, identities, and others.
2. Prior to each community of practice you will review content online through engaging videos, preparing  to reflect and apply that content in the communities of practice. The preparation for each community of practice is about 1 hour (for a total of 2 hours).
3. Faculty members will participate in a 3rd community of practice, around inclusive pedagogy. This will also be pre-faced by about 1 hour of content online.

You will receive login instructions directly from Equip Inclusive. In the near future, a member of the OVPDEI team will provide further details to connect you with your colleagues in your EQUIP community of practice.
